At this point in your project, you are preparing to move from the research phase to the writing phase.

You have gathered much of the information you will use, and soon you will be ready to begin writing your draft.

Exercise \(\Page Index\) Review the research questions and working thesis you developed in Section 11.2.

Set a timer for ten minutes and write about your topic, using your questions and thesis to guide your writing.

Now it is time to think about how you will use this information as a writer.

When you conduct research, you keep an open mind and seek out many promising sources.

The National Research Council offers a set of 6 guiding principles for scientific research (1), and it bears reiterating them as an aid to those of you considering evaluating educational research. It is certainly clear that we live in an information society, where access to information is pervasive, from books and journals to online websites, blogs, podcasts and more.

When you revise and are spending time thinking about how well your content works in your essay, there are some strategies to keep in mind that can help.

This can help you better understand the opposing view and can help you see where you may need to strengthen your argument.

If you’re in a writing class, chances are you’ll have some kind of peer review for your argument.
